Filipino ReaderCon 2012 Filipino Friday [1]: Introductions

Introductions. As with every start of a weekly meme, we need to know a bit about you! Talk about your top 3-5 (or more!) favorite books of all time, the genres you read and would never read, the books that surprised you this year. You can also talk about how you became a reader and why you love it so much! And finally, if you were in the ReaderCon last year, talk about your experience too! If you weren’t there, but you’re planning to go this year, then what do you expect for the upcoming ReaderCon?

Short and sweet answers coming up!

Hi! I'm Monique. I'm 32 (until November arrives), happily married to my best friend and soulmate, Nanay to a 19-month-old little girl, government lawyer, and lover of books.

My top 5 books of all time are the following, in no particular order: The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, Snow, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman, and Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.

I am not a genre snob, as I would read anything, but I have to say I prefer general fiction.

This year, I got to be surprised by Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card – if all science fiction books were this readable, I'd have no trouble adjusting to aliens and buggers.

The story of how I became a reader is serendipitous, if I may be allowed to say so. I wrote about it on my introduction to my book blog. :)

Yes, I was in the ReaderCon last year, and I enjoyed the book club discussions as well as the book blogger panel – one of my bookish friends, Aldrin, was part of the panel, and I (silently) cheered him on! Hopefully, this year, other book bloggers would also be given the same opportunity. Also, I am hoping that the support given to YA and children's lit bloggers would also be afforded the literary and general fiction bloggers.

Hello there, welcome to this year's ReaderCon! Join the fun, ha? :)
