Book Splurge [16]: New Year's Edition

January first. The very first day of 2013, and where do you think I spent it? :D

No rocket science is required to get the correct answer, my friends. If you know me at all, you'd easily guess where I was. No? :P

My family and I were over at Bonifacio High Street, where a visit to the Fully Booked branch is absolutely mandatory.

Oh, joy!

Imagine spending the first day of the new year with your family, surrounded with books and inhaling the wonderful, wonderful scent of the fresh pages? Perfect, isn't it?

And to top it all off, here's my new year's loot!

  • The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - I've heard good things about this from book blogs, so I'm looking forward to reading this.
  • The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen - I honestly didn't mean to buy anything else aside from The Song of Achilles, but when I wandered over to the sales bins, I saw that they had this one marked down to 50% off, and it was hardbound, too! Since I liked Sarah Addison Allen's Garden Spells last year, I thought I'd get this as well.
  • An Abundance of Katherines by John Green - Totally unplanned purchase. I was just wandering over the YA section, over by the stacks of hardback The Fault In Our Stars, already happy with my two purchases above, when I saw this lone copy on top of the TFiOS pile. I checked the price (P350), put it back, and then wandered off again. When I went back around the John Green stacks, it was gone! I hurried over to my family, who were having coffee at Starbucks, to report the "incident." My husband told me, "If you wanted it, you should have just bought it." So I told myself that if I should see another copy on our way out, then I'm getting it, no questions asked. You know how the story ends, right? :D

Happy New Year! How about you? Any new year book purchases? ;)

Yay! The Song of Achilles! It's probably my best read for 2012!
