Book Splurge [21]: Mother-Daughter Haul (2)

Also known as the 34th Manila International Book Fair loot.

But before we get to that, I think I need to post a few more photos of books that I've acquired for the past few weeks. I've been remiss in posting about these recent acquisitions (hello, real life stuff) so I'm going to dump them all in this particular entry.

These arrived in the mail a couple of months ago, shipped by The Book Depository.

Short stories.

These were from a favorite bargain/secondhand book store, which the little girl helped choose. It was her first time to set foot inside a Book Sale, too! :)

I'm making a reader out of my darling.

Lastly, here is our combined loot from the 34th MIBF, which ran from Sept. 11-15.

Bought a bunch of Ang Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang stories from Anvil, which clearly offered the best discounts on Filipiniana titles. All of these are for the little girl. Got double copies for each title - just in case. :D As for me, I got myself a copy of Joni Cham's In My Mother's House which I've been curious to read for the longest time, and Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea, which has been on my wish list for a while, as well. I bought Joni Cham's book for full price - no discount despite the inconvenience caused by the Central staff in locating a copy (they didn't know where their stocks were, my goodness) - while the Jean Rhys book was only for P99. I also bought a ton of fun notepads from Tahanan Books; I just couldn't resist.

Cheap and funny notepads!

Like I told a friend, I held off ransacking the shelves at the fair because the books I bought from last year's MIBF are still unread. And I really didn't have an urgent need to buy anything for myself, except for In My Mother's House. And the bigger bookstores like National Bookstore and Fully Booked only had a 20% mark-down for their stocks, unlike Anvil's 50%-80% on really good titles. So I was very happy with what I got. :)

Until next year's MIBF! :)
