Required Reading 2014: June

It’s a brand-new month, which means it’s time for a new reading list!

Where I’m from, June heralds the start of the rainy season, and personally, while I’m wary of floods and typhoons hitting the country in succession for the next few months, I’m actually glad that summer is over. We need the rain, and we’ve had enough of the heat!

But first, let's have a look at what happened to my reading list last month:

  • To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf – Waded through the stream and lapped up the emotions. The book club’s book of the month. 5/5
  • Independent People by Halldor Laxness – Currently at page 220.
  • The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes – Carried over to June.

I must admit that Madame Woolf took a lot of my reading time for May, but I regret nothing. Also, it’s taking me a bit to read Independent People, but I’m in no hurry. I don’t want to be hasty in reading it lest the beauty of the novel escape me. (Excuses, excuses. Heh.)

So for June, in addition to my current read, here are the books that comprise my reading list:

  • The City and The City by China Mieville – The book club’s book of the month. Genre: New Weird.
  • The Fault in our Stars by John Green – The movie’s coming out! It’s high time I read this, and this is part of my 2014 must-reads, anyway. Besides, I need something light and YA, to cleanse the palate.
  • The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes – Like I said, a spill-over from May.

How about you? What are you reading this month? :)

Hi Lynai! Yes, finally! Haha. It's also been a while since I've read a John Green book, so I'm psyched to read this. :)

TIN: Woolf! Yay! (I have to say, I love your mutant references over The Dinner, haha!)

Thanks for being so supportive (and competitive). And yes, Independent People is slow, but there's something that would redeem the glacial pace. :)
