Book Splurge [5]
Last Saturday, I attended the book club's F2F6: The Lord of The Rings discussion, which will be the subject of another (future) post. I only mention it now because
that was the occasion when I received these lovely books from my
awesome bookish friends.

- The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz ~ I bought this from Treebeard, er, Tricia, who's raising funds to buy a Nook by selling some of her titles. For a trade paperback in very good condition, Tricia definitely gave me a bargain. Thanks, Tricia! :)
- Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson ~ I've been hearing how Robinson writes elegantly, and so I put this book up on my wish list over at Goodreads. My Buddy, whose knack for scouring Book Sale shelves for good titles I seriously envy, got this copy for me. Thank, Buddy! :D
- Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro ~ A copy that I won from Buddy's birthday giveaway last April. I've read this before and gave it 5 stars (loved it!), but since I don't have a print copy yet (I read the Kindle edition), I thought it would be the perfect book to receive from a fellow Ishiguro fan.
And look, there's a National Book Store gift certificate to go with Ishiguro, too! Yay! :)
P500 to buy a new book! Yay! :D |

On a serious note, did you see Junot Diaz when he was in town? Almost all the people I knew who met him said that he was very personable and quite grounded. Too bad I didn't bother to go to these events. Oh well, there's always a next time.
Enjoy reading your new-ish books!
Unfortunately, I didn't see Junot Diaz when he was here. Angus did, however, and managed to have his Drown copy signed. I haven't read Junot yet so I didn't feel right going there just to see him. :)
