Book Splurge [15]

These parcels arrived in the mail last month, and although I was able to photograph them before I threw away the bubble packaging, I didn't have the time to write a proper post. Yep, you got it - I was just too busy.

Two were from Book Depository and one came from a private individual in the US - an American Bookmoocher! Take a look at what's inside the parcels:

• Hunger by Knut Hamsun - My bookish Buddy's favorite book. How can I not read this when it's so highly recommended? I gave up trying the local bookstores for a copy and decided to purchase from Book Depository instead. 
• The Appointment by Herta Muller - My second book from this Nobel laureate, the first one being The Land of Green Plums (4/5) which I buddy read with, who else, Angus. :D I'm looking forward to reading this. 
• Heartbreak Hill by Carol Macbain - Another one to add to my collection! If you didn't know it yet, I've been collecting these YA/teen romances for several years now, and I'm only a few titles shy of completing the series - all 233 of them. They're out of print, so I have to scour high and low for copies. Fortunately, this guy from the US let me mooch his copy. Yay! 

Also, just this weekend, I had a chick-lit book-shopping spree at Book Sale Robinsons Ermita. Here's the loot:

• The Breakup Diaries by Maya O. Calica - The author's name is vaguely familiar; I know I've read one of her articles before, somewhere, so I decided to give this one a chance. And look, it's the 9th anniversary edition. That means the book has been around for a while. I have to read this! 
• Fairy Tale Fail by Mina V. Esguerra - I've already read this and liked it (3/5) when it was only available in digital format. It would be nice to have one in print, right? :)
• From This Day Forward by Marla Miniano - I have also previously read the author's other work, Table For Two, which I also liked (3/5) despite certain misgivings. This latest work looks promising, I think. 

And finally, take a look at these two gorgeous bargain titles I found at the same branch of Book Sale today: 

• Independent People by Halldor Laxness - According to Angus, this book is out of print and therefore, difficult to find. I did try looking if Book Depository has it, and was miffed to discover that they didn't. I am intrigued and curious to read it because my our favorite author, David Mitchell, mentioned in a recent interview that he's currently reading it. (Talk about fangirling. :P) Now that I found this bargain copy, I can return Angus', which I borrowed in the (evidently mistaken) belief that I won't be able to find my own.  Oh, and did I say that I got this for only P50.00?
• The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri - I've been hearing great things about this award-winning author and cannot wait to read this, another real bargain for only P35.00. I also have Lahiri's other book, Interpreter of Maladies, waiting to be read. Aldrin, still up for a buddy read of that one? :D

Apart from these titles, I also managed to score a few others which I intend to gift my bookish friends with. I'm not going to show those off now, am I? Our Christmas party is this coming weekend, and I'm too excited for words! :D
