Book Splurge [17]
It's been a while since I last posted something about recent book acquisitions, and I'm not sure if I'm even forgetting any title that came into my hands - whether by purchase or gratuity - in the interim. In any case, here are the most recent of them, purchased individually from different stores at different times:
- The Road by Cormac McCarthy - Bought from Book Sale Robinsons Ermita, for P145.00. I've seen several bookish friends giving stellar ratings and reviews for this one, so I might as well see what the raves are about.
- Hour of Dawn: The Fall and Uncertain Rise of the Philippine Supreme Court by Marites Danguilan Vitug - I wasn't even looking for this one. I didn't even know that this book existed. I was just looking for some crayons for the little girl during our side trip to Powerbooks last Friday when I literally bumped into a huge pile by the supplies section. Curious at seeing the facade of the institution where I work on the cover, I picked up a copy and, upon realizing what it was about - former CJ Corona's impeachment trial and the circumstances leading up to and after it - I knew I had to buy it. The mention of my boss in a few chapters likewise piqued my curiosity.
- The Castle in the Pyrenees by Jostein Gaarder - I have a bunch of Gaarder's books at home, which I've been meaning to read after Sophie's World some years before, but never getting to do it at all. This is his latest work, and I chanced upon a hardback on the sales bins of National Book Store - Robinsons Ermita for only P150.00. It was too good an opportunity to pass up, yes?

Also, Gaarder. I've never read him (or is it a her?).
Ooops, sorry, my bad! Gaarder is a HE. :D
I read The Orange Girl from Gaarder and I really liked it. :)
