Required Reading 2014: November

It's my most favorite month of the year! :)

I love the months that lead up to Christmas. There's a certain chill in the air, a quiet anticipation that's so hard to contain. And there are the shorter days and the longer nights, which means more time to spend cozying up in bed! For those who can afford to, at least. Work and life go on as usual, and this working mother is no exception.

Anyway, another month means a new reading list. But before we get to that, here's a recap of the books I read last October:

• The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton - OMFG. Brilliant. My best read of the year so far. 5/5.

• The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat And Other Clinical Tales by Oliver Sacks - Essays on neurological conditions. 4/5.

• Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman - Only a true bibliophile can relate. 4/5.

• Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen - Relevant theme, bad writing. 4/5.

• Lower Myths by Eliza Victoria - Modern fantasy novellas. 4/5.

I am all set to read Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman this month, my last I Dare You To Read book from the book club's 2014 challenge, c/o Meliza. I saved reading it for November because Neil Gaiman, one of my uber-favorite authors, also celebrates his birthday this month (his birthday is on the 10th). Well, that, and because I'm nearly out of time to complete the dare (ooops!), December being an even more busy month than November.

Also, while I'm reading Gaiman on his our birthday month, I've decided that it is also the perfect time to finally finish reading the Sandman volumes. I've read the first one, Preludes & Nocturnes, last year, and was completely bowled over. I delayed reading the next volumes for reasons that escape me now, so picking up the succeeding volumes is way overdue. These have been gathering dust in our shelves for nearly 4 years already, so I thought I'd hang out with Dream and Death again.
